HR embracing emergenetics

  Emergenetics is a new training technique used for staff to analyze how a student will or has acted. Emergenetics has been around since 1991, but has recently been introduced to Highlands Ranch.

  All teachers have been profiled and taught about Emergenetics, and they are beginning to incorporate their newfound knowledge into their lessons.

  By using color codes, teachers are allowed to profile students. Each color represents a personality trait; for instance, yellow represents creativity, red means social, blue means analytical, and green means structural as said by Donna Goodwin.

  Goodwin is currently a contributor to the new HR Emergenetics project, but is also an English teacher.  If a student is shy, according to the certain color they are given, then teachers will know to not call on them too much during class, or teachers can partner students up with other students who share the same personality traits as them.

  The teachers can also alter their lessons based on their own test results. Goodwin says that “since I’m so yellow, I know to incorporate more green into my lessons.”

  “It allows us to look at different thinking preferences,” says Kerith Stuebinger. Stuebinger is one of the leaders of the Highlands Ranch Emergenetics program.

  She says that it is a way to show how “behaviors manifest in daily life” and to “identify thinking.” She said how it “allows teachers and staff to have students function as an individual and collectively.” Both Goodwin and Stuebinger believe that Emergenetics will be beneficial to HR.

  Emergenetics hasn’t been tested fully yet here at HR. But in the future, testing will go further in depth. Not so much as the entire freshman population, but a small test group about the size of 20 students or so.
