Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was a movie full of action, humor, and surprising character development. At the very beginning of the movie, the audience is surprised by a light and funny scene, and it truly helps give the audience a good idea of what the rest of the film is going to bring to the table.

The original team of five characters get themselves into trouble, and then more trouble, until the main character, Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, finds himself on a journey to learn about his true heritage. Along the way, the group finds trouble with gangs of Ravagers, a race of condescending gold people called the Sovereign, and one God/David Hasselhoff with big plans.

I think that the movie did a great job of combining action and comedy. The jokes in this movie had the whole theater roaring, and the action scenes were put together in a way that keeps your attention without getting repetitive. And Baby Groot certainly didn’t disappoint, which automatically makes the movie amazingly entertaining.

The movie, however, falls flat regarding emotion. Sure, the movie is funny, but when it comes to the sentimental or sad scenes, there’s nothing behind it. When there’s a tearful death, or there’s a heart to heart moment, it seems out of place. These scenes are wedged into the script, like that one bullet point on a school project rubric that’s just included to get the A.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a rating of 8.1/10 on IMDb. According to IMDb, the movie brought in $146,500,000 on its opening weekend. It also has a rating of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. I give this movie a similar rating of 4/5 stars. Even though the movie makers couldn’t get the audience’s waterworks going at certain points, the hilarious sarcasm makes up for it, and then some.
