Sasha’s Slam that put Ranch on the map

In their season opener, HR varsity boys basketball played Northglenn High School. Starting varsity point guard and small forward, Sasha Stelkic, senior, had a highlight that went viral. As prominent national athletic platforms on Instagram like House of Highlights and Overtime posted the dunk, it received major fame and recognition. Stelkic’s dunk went viral and everyone; including the bench, the players, and the coaches were thrilled and upbeat.

The official Colorado sports channel, 9sportsco, by 9NEWS KUSA-TV, recognized Stelkic’s highlight as the 4th greatest highlight of the month. Mentioned by Scotty Gange in the Prep Rally from 9sportsco, “We’re calling this one the Sasha Slam. Sasha Stelkic hammer it, let’s go Sasha of Highlands Ranch throws it down.” Link to the video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CW_Wz1jDFzP/?utm_medium=copy_link

Jordan Carter, head basketball coach at Highlands Ranch believes this put Stelkic on the map because of his athletic ability and firmly believes this dunk could attract a few colleges. “As a player he’s really versatile, skilled, and can do a lot of things well. Plus having a 40 inch vertical helps him. I’ve gotten to know him since I got the coach job about a year ago and just about using his athleticism, rising up and being aggressive like that was the first time we as a team, have really seen him do it in game aside practices.” said by Carter.

Alongside his highlight, Stelkic had 12 points and 5 rebounds and was ecstatic about the dunk afterwards . “It felt great to start the season off with a dunk like that. I got 200 new followers on Instagram” Stelkic said.

With hopes to attract colleges, Carter wants similar energy in future games and believes Stelkic can truly be known. Mentioned by Stelkic, “hopefully the video helps get my name out there for college coaches so we’ll see if I got more in me this season.”
