Nate Hamby, varsity quarterback, answers

questions about this year’s football team,

and his attitude towards football.

Q: What are some strengths and weaknesses of the team?

Hamby: Some of the strengths are that we are a young team, and we’re very coachable. And then some of the weaknesses would be, sometimes we get a little ahead of ourselves, and get ourselves too hyped for some situations.

Q: How do you see the season progressing?

Hamby: I think this season we’re gonna  win a lot of games, but a lot of them are gonna be close to the end, battling it out.

Q: What are you most looking forward to for this season?

Hamby: Getting to play the other Highlands Ranch schools, and beating them.

Q: In your major games, how do you handle pressure?

Hamby: Just step back, and remember  just to slow things down, and not try and make a big play but take it one step at a time.

Q: How do you prepare for games? How have you prepared for the Homecoming game?

Hamby: Put a lot of work this week, even with all the distractions, like Ruff & Tuff, Powderpuff, and stuff like that. And we’ve just stayed focused and put in some new stuff that we think would really help us go out there and win.

Q: What’s  one of the best plays you’ve ever had?

Hamby: Probably one that really sticks out to me, it would be against Fruita last year, and it was a 35 yard touchdown pass to Kobe Eller.

Q: What is one football moment most memorable? One you can never forget?

Hamby: Probably getting my first start my senior year down in Pueblo.

Q: What are your goals, as a team, for this season?

Hamby: This season we definitely want to be “King of the Ranch”, and we want to make playoffs.

Q: Is it pretty common for injuries to occur? How common?

Hamby: There’s always like big hits, like big stingers, and you might need to come out for a little bit, but big injuries, we’ve only experienced one so far this year, and we hope to keep it that way.

Q: Who inspires you the most?

Hamby: Probably my mama, just how she always believes in me and how dedicated of a worker she is. And shows how even whenever it gets hard, let’s say at her job, she always finds a way to push through and make the best of it.

Q: Is it hard to juggle school, and practice, and games? How do you balance everything out?

Hamby: One of it I would say is making the most of off hours, don’t just go home and like sleep or watch t.v but actually do school work so I don’t have as much homework at night.

Q: What, in your opinion, makes a great football player?

Hamby: Dedication. Meaning being dedicated that he always puts in the work whenever no one’s looking, knows what’s right and wrong on and off the field, and to keep themselves healthy and not make stupid decisions. And dedicated to make the team better.
