St. Cloud, Florida — A 17-year-old student was hospitalized with facial injuries after allegedly being attacked by nine schoolmates near Harmony High School, hours after he confronted students who were bullying a girl in the school cafeteria, authorities said.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said nine students, ranging in age from 14 to 18, were arrested in connection with the October 16 incident. Investigators allege that the confrontation began during lunch and later escalated into a group assault near the victim’s car.
The teenager required 11 stitches for facial injuries, according to the sheriff’s office. The nine defendants face felony charges as the case moves through the legal process.
What Happened in the School Cafeteria?
According to investigators, the 17-year-old was in the cafeteria at Harmony High School during lunch on Friday, October 16, when he saw a female student being bullied.
Authorities said the students were allegedly throwing carrots at the girl. The teenager intervened and told them to stop, leading to a verbal confrontation with two of the suspects.
The disagreement did not end there, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators allege that later that day, the student was walking toward his car near the school when one of the juvenile suspects struck him.
The other eight suspects allegedly joined the attack, repeatedly punching the teenager in the face and head.
Authorities said the victim was left bloodied and injured during the incident. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the alleged assault that followed.
Video Appears to Show Group Attack Near Car
A video described in the original report appears to capture the confrontation near the teenager’s vehicle.
The footage shows the teen approaching his car while people exchange profanity. The faces of those shown in the video are blurred, and it is unclear who is speaking.
As the teenager opens the car door, one person runs toward him and punches him in the face. The individual continues striking him as the teen appears to push back in an attempt to defend himself.
Another person then joins the confrontation. At one point, the teenager is positioned against the car while at least four people appear to be hitting him.
The camera briefly moves away from the scene. Although the attack appears to pause, two people are subsequently seen punching the teenager again.
The sheriff’s office said the victim was taken to a hospital, where he received 11 stitches for his facial injuries.
The video forms part of the public account of the incident, but the allegations against the defendants will be addressed through the legal process.
Nine Students Arrested on Felony Charges
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests on Wednesday, October 21. Authorities publicly identified eight of the nine defendants, including 18-year-olds Quianelle Antonio Reyes-Cintron and Brian Alexander Ramirez, along with six juveniles.
According to the sheriff’s office, the defendants were charged with felony aggravated battery and felony inciting a riot. Reyes-Cintron also faces an additional charge of battery involving touching or striking, according to his online court records.
Attorneys representing Reyes-Cintron told that they planned to enter a not-guilty plea on his behalf and would be “defending him rigorously.”
Court records for the other defendants were not available as of Thursday afternoon in the original report. It was not immediately clear whether they had entered pleas.
The charges represent allegations, and the defendants are entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty.
Florida Sheriff Responds to Alleged Attack
Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon addressed the incident in a statement, emphasizing the importance of preventing violence among students.
“Students deserve a violence-free learning environment, and we will ensure that standard is met,” Blackmon said.

He also praised the teenager for intervening when he saw another student being bullied.
“This victim did the right thing by standing up for another student being bullied,” Blackmon said. “He is the brave one; the 9 teens that chose violence against him are the cowards.”
The sheriff’s comments underscored the department’s position that students should be able to attend school without fearing intimidation or physical attacks.
School District Says Violence Will Not Be Tolerated
Osceola School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Shanoff also addressed the case in a statement.
“Let me be clear: physical intimidation, threats, or acts of violence of any kind will not be tolerated in our schools or in our community, whether on or off campus.”
Shanoff added that the alleged conduct was inconsistent with the district’s expectations for student behavior.
“Such behavior is fundamentally inconsistent with the values of our school district and the standards of conduct we expect from every student,” he said. “We take these matters seriously, and there must be accountability when those expectations are violated.”
Calls to Harmony High School seeking comment went unanswered Thursday afternoon, according to the report. The investigation and court proceedings will determine how the allegations are resolved.
