Detroit, Michigan — Three people were killed and four others were injured after an argument erupted into gunfire at an after-hours strip club in Detroit early Sunday morning, according to police.
Officers responded to the shooting at approximately 7:21 a.m. on a largely residential street and discovered three men who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds, Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said during a news conference.
Four additional victims — two men and two women — were taken to area hospitals in private vehicles. Police said all seven victims are believed to be in their 20s and 30s.
Argument Escalated Into Deadly Gunfire
According to Chief Bettison, the shooting followed an argument and physical altercation inside or around the after-hours establishment.
“A fight occurred, an altercation occurred, and as a result individuals decided to settle it with gun violence,” Bettison said.
The chief did not provide additional details about what sparked the dispute or identify any suspects in connection with the shooting.
Investigators were working to establish exactly what happened before the gunfire and determine who was responsible for the deaths and injuries.
The shooting happened during the early morning hours at a location police already knew.
Police Had Responded to Location Seven Times
Bettison said the address was not new to the Detroit Police Department, revealing that officers had responded to the location seven times this year before Sunday’s deadly shooting.
“This address is not new to the Detroit Police Department,” Bettison said.
The chief indicated that investigators had leads in the case but declined to provide further information about those leads. He also described the business as an after-hours location, offering a brief description of the scene during the news conference.
“This was an after-hours location,” Bettison said. “Imagine a strip club. … I’ll leave it at that.”
Police did not immediately release additional information about the establishment, the circumstances surrounding its operation or whether any arrests had been made.
Three Men Were Killed
The three people who died were all men, according to police.
Officers arriving at the scene found the victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, all three men died from their injuries. Four other people survived the shooting but required medical attention.
The two male and two female victims were transported to local hospitals in private vehicles rather than being taken by police or emergency transport, according to officials.
Their conditions were not immediately provided. Police also said the victims were believed to be between their 20s and 30s, though officials did not immediately release their names.
Authorities are expected to provide additional information as investigators notify relatives and continue working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Mayor Calls for Community to Speak Up
Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield urged anyone who may have information about the shooting to contact authorities.
With multiple people killed and injured, Sheffield said community cooperation would be important to helping investigators determine what happened and identify those responsible.
“We know that we need more people to speak up to bring justice to the situation,” she said during the news conference.
The mayor also described the shooting as a painful event for the community.
“It’s heartbreaking and our community should not suffer from this type of violence,” Sheffield said.
Investigation Continues
Police had not publicly identified a suspect or announced an arrest at the time of the news conference.
Investigators will now work to reconstruct the events leading up to the shooting, including the initial argument and the moments immediately before the gunfire.
The fact that police had seven previous calls to the same location this year is also expected to remain part of the investigation and broader questions surrounding the after-hours establishment.
For now, authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the altercation, shooting or events leading up to it to come forward with information.
