Suspect Accused of Shooting Two Teens at Homecoming Football Game Released on $100,000 Bond Option

Eden Prairie, Minnesota — An 18-year-old accused of shooting two teenagers outside a Minnesota high school football game has been released from jail after posting bond, just days after his arrest. The decision has drawn criticism as investigators continue examining the gunfire that disrupted Eden Prairie High School’s homecoming celebration.

Adam Abdihakeem Adam was released at 7:04 p.m. on October 10, according to Hennepin County jail records. Police allege he opened fire outside the school during its October 2 homecoming football game, injuring an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old.

The shooting prompted the evacuation of the stadium and triggered a multi-agency investigation.

Why Was the Minnesota Shooting Suspect Released?

Jail records list a $100,000 bail or bond option without conditions and confirm that Adam was released Saturday evening. He faces two felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of second-degree riot while armed with a dangerous weapon.

His release sparked criticism from President Donald Trump’s Rapid Response 47 account, which highlighted police statements linking the incident to rival Somali gangs.

“A Radical Left judge immediately granted him a no-condition bail,” the account wrote on X.

The release has brought renewed attention to bail decisions in serious criminal cases. However, the available information does not establish the full reasoning behind the court’s decision, and the charges against Adam remain allegations unless proven in court.

His next court appearance was scheduled for Monday afternoon, October 12.

What Police Say Happened at the Homecoming Game

According to charging documents cited by FOX 9 Minneapolis, the violence began when two cars entered a parking lot near Eden Prairie High School and a fight involving approximately 10 people broke out.

Investigators allege that the driver of one vehicle got out, opened fire on the victims and fled the scene.

Authorities identified Adam as the alleged shooter and said he had been driving his brother’s car. Investigators reportedly tracked his phone in connection with the vehicle before, during and after the shooting.

According to the reported charging documents, Adam later allegedly abandoned the phone and changed his number.

A search of his home in St. Louis Park also reportedly uncovered clothing matching what the shooter was seen wearing in surveillance footage.

How Investigators Tracked Down the Suspect

Police arrested Adam on October 8 near Highway 55 and Penn Avenue in Minneapolis. Authorities said he was taken into custody without incident.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office credited detectives from its Auto Theft Task Force and West Metro Drug Task Force, along with officers from St. Louis Park and Hopkins, for helping locate and safely box in the vehicle.

Eden Prairie Police Chief Matt Sackett praised the officers involved in the investigation following the arrest.

“I’m incredibly proud of our officers and investigators who have worked nonstop alongside our law enforcement partners to identify those responsible and hold them accountable,” Sackett said.

The investigation involved multiple agencies working together to identify those believed to be responsible for the shooting.

Officials Examine Concerns About Further Violence

The homecoming shooting has also intensified concerns about gang-related violence across the Minneapolis metropolitan area.

Regional public safety agencies have met under the coordination of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to share intelligence and coordinate investigations aimed at preventing additional shootings.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Michele Tafoya also cited the homecoming incident and other recent violence while raising concerns about public safety.

“Our law enforcement here are calling it out as the product of Somali gang violence, and we’ve got to identify it, and we have to find a way to deal with it,” Tafoya said.

These statements reflect concerns raised by political figures and law enforcement officials, but they should not be interpreted as evidence that an entire ethnic community is responsible for criminal activity.

Another Shooting Investigation Remains Separate

Eden Prairie police are also investigating an October 5 shots-fired incident at a Speedway gas station. No injuries were reported in that case.

Investigators have said they have not identified a connection between the gas station incident and the October 2 homecoming shooting.

Chief Sackett has emphasized that the homecoming investigation remains active, with additional arrests or charges possible.

For now, the case continues as Adam prepares for his next court appearance. Investigators are still working to establish the full circumstances of the shooting and determine whether others were involved.
