Florida Officer Arrested After Boyfriend Allegedly Suffers Bite Marks During Breakup Dispute

Hialeah, Florida — A Florida police officer is accused of physically attacking her boyfriend after he told her he wanted to end their two-year relationship, allegedly restraining him near the door and biting him during a confrontation, according to court records.

Marcia Sangronis, 38, of the North Bay Village Police Department, was arrested Tuesday on one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. The allegations came to light after the man reportedly escaped from her home and flagged down two Hialeah police officers on the morning of October 6.

Investigators documented multiple bite marks and scratches on the alleged victim, according to a probable cause affidavit. Sangronis was later released on bond, with a judge ordering her to have no contact with the man.

Boyfriend Flagged Down Police After Alleged Attack

According to the arrest affidavit, the investigation began shortly before 10 a.m. on October 6, when the alleged victim ran from Sangronis’ home and approached two patrol officers from the Hialeah Police Department.

He told the officers that Sangronis “physically abuses him” and described the latest alleged incident.

The man said the two had spent the previous night at Sangronis’ residence. During that time, they discussed his career plans, particularly what the affidavit described as his “lack of motivation to pursue a career in law enforcement.”

According to his account, disagreements about his professional future had repeatedly caused tension between them.

He alleged that Sangronis regularly “becomes angry and violent” whenever the subject came up. He also said he had “learned to minimize conversations about his career plans and agree with Sangronis to avoid making her angrier.”

The man reportedly decided he would end the relationship when they woke up the following morning.

Argument Allegedly Turned Physical During Breakup

The situation allegedly escalated when the man told Sangronis he was “done with the relationship.”

In a recorded statement given at the police precinct, the alleged victim said Sangronis “bearhugged him” and dragged him away from the door before biting him. His account formed part of the investigation into the alleged battery.

Hialeah police special victims detectives responded to the case, while a technician from the department’s Criminal Investigations Division photographed the man’s injuries.

The photographs reportedly documented three separate bite marks on his left arm, including one that broke the skin. Investigators also documented several scratches across his body, arms and face.

The reported injuries became part of the evidence gathered by investigators as they examined the allegations.

Police Documented Multiple Injuries

The affidavit describes the alleged victim’s account of the confrontation and the physical injuries recorded by investigators.

Sangronis also provided a statement to police. However, that portion of the arrest affidavit was redacted, meaning the details of her account were not publicly available in the document.

The allegations remain accusations, and the available records do not establish a final determination of guilt.

The case has also drawn attention because Sangronis is a serving law enforcement officer with the North Bay Village Police Department.

Police Department Places Sangronis on Paid Leave

The North Bay Village Police Department said Hialeah police notified the agency about the incident. According to a local station, Sangronis was “relieved of duty with pay per our agency’s protocols.”

The department also issued a statement emphasizing its expectations for personnel conduct.

“The North Bay Village Police Department holds all its personnel to the highest standards of conduct and fully accountable for their actions on and off duty,” the department said.

The statement did not indicate a final employment decision, and Sangronis’ status could be subject to further review as the case proceeds.

Officer Released on $1,000 Bond

Following her arrest, Sangronis was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County. She was subsequently released after posting $1,000 bond. As a condition of her release, a judge ordered her not to contact the alleged victim.

Court records cited in the report did not immediately clarify when Sangronis is scheduled to appear in court again.

The case now leaves questions about the next legal steps and the outcome of the criminal charge. Investigators’ findings, the available evidence and any further court proceedings will determine how the allegations move forward.
