Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — An early-morning doughnut delivery took an unexpected turn Tuesday after thieves allegedly stole a Krispy Kreme delivery truck from a gas station parking lot while the driver was making a stop.
The white 2023 GMC truck was reported stolen at about 5:11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, on Church Street in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood, according to a spokesperson for the Philadelphia Police Department.
Police are now investigating the theft, which ended with the truck being recovered several miles away.
Krispy Kreme Truck Stolen During Delivery
According to local reports, the truck had stopped at a Royal Farms gas station while the driver was making a delivery.
Police did not identify the vehicle’s brand in their statement. However, 6abc that the stolen truck belonged to Krispy Kreme.
The circumstances surrounding the theft remain under investigation, including how the suspects were able to take the vehicle while the driver was completing the delivery.
The incident happened during the early morning hours, when the area was likely beginning its daily commercial activity. Police have not publicly identified a suspect or released additional details about how the theft occurred.
Driver Tracks Down the Stolen Truck
The stolen vehicle did not remain missing for long.
According to police, the driver was able to track the truck to East Erie Avenue, where authorities subsequently located and recovered it.
The recovery brought an end to the search for the vehicle, but investigators are still working to determine who took it and exactly what happened during the theft.
Authorities have not said whether the suspects were still in or near the vehicle when it was recovered.
Doughnuts and an iPhone Reported Stolen
Although the truck itself was recovered, some of its contents were reportedly missing. Police said an unknown quantity of doughnuts and an iPhone were reported stolen from the vehicle.
The amount of doughnuts taken has not been disclosed, and police have not indicated whether any of the missing items were recovered along with the truck.
