Rush-Hour Subway Ride Turns Deadly After 59-Year-Old Passenger Is Fatally Stabbed on Queens J Train

Queens, New York — A 59-year-old subway passenger was fatally stabbed during an argument aboard a crowded J train Wednesday evening, turning the rush-hour commute into a deadly scene, according to police and law enforcement sources.

The attack happened around 5:20 p.m. as the southbound train approached the Woodhaven Boulevard station, authorities said. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the victim before getting off the train at the Woodhaven stop.

The victim was left critically injured as other passengers fled the station.

Deadly Argument Erupts on J Train

According to police and law enforcement sources, the stabbing occurred during a heated exchange between the two men aboard the packed subway train.

The suspect allegedly plunged a sharp object into the 59-year-old passenger before leaving the train when it reached Woodhaven Boulevard.

Photos from the scene appeared to show what looked like a serrated kitchen knife, along with bloodied clothing scattered across the subway platform.

The violent incident quickly brought the evening commute to a halt as police and emergency responders rushed to the station.

Suspect Seen Fleeing Subway Station

Surveillance footage from the area showed passengers pouring out of the station and into the street shortly after the attack. A man wearing a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants, black shoes and a balaclava was seen running away from the station, according to footage obtained by The Post.

As the man ran across the street, several people appeared to point in his direction. A group of men nearby also began chasing after him. Police moved quickly and detained a person of interest later Wednesday evening, according to authorities.

However, investigators had not immediately confirmed whether the man seen running from the station was the same person who carried out the stabbing.

The investigation remained active as detectives worked to establish exactly what happened inside the train and identify the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.

Victim Dies at Jamaica Hospital

Emergency medical personnel rushed the critically injured passenger to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center following the stabbing.

Despite efforts to save him, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. Authorities had not immediately released his identity because his family was still being notified.

The circumstances surrounding the argument remained under investigation, and police had not publicly disclosed what triggered the confrontation between the two passengers.

Subway Service Disrupted During Investigation

The fatal stabbing also caused significant disruption to subway service in the area as investigators processed the crime scene.

Northbound J trains were forced to bypass Woodhaven Boulevard station while detectives and crime scene unit officers examined the platform and gathered evidence.
