Islamorada, Florida — A 26-year-old Florida man has been arrested after allegedly running up more than $2,400 in charges at a luxury resort and attempting to have at least part of the bill charged to another guest’s room, according to reports.
The alleged spending spree took place at Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada last year, where investigators say purchases included drinks, food, shirts, hats and other items.
The case came to light after a woman staying at the resort was reportedly confronted with more than $900 in charges to her room that she said she had never authorized.
Woman Disputes More Than $900 in Resort Charges
According to reports, police were called to the resort after the female guest questioned a series of charges that had appeared on her hotel account. The woman reportedly told authorities that she did not consent to the more than $900 in expenses connected to her room.
Investigators then began examining where the charges originated and how they had been placed on the guest’s account. What they allegedly uncovered was a much larger spending trail.
Authorities determined that approximately $2,419 in purchases had been made at the resort, including beverages, food, clothing and other merchandise.
Investigators allegedly traced the spending back to Malachi Ethan Keasler, a Clearwater, Florida, native.
Police Allegedly Trace Spending to Two People
Hotel security reportedly worked alongside detectives from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the charges and determine who was responsible.
Authorities allegedly traced the activity to Keasler and Emma Camille Wallace, a 24-year-old woman who was arrested in connection with the case last December.
The investigation focused on how the purchases were allegedly made and how charges ended up being associated with another resort guest’s room. The case ultimately led to Keasler’s arrest this year.
Man Faces Multiple Charges
Keasler was taken into custody Saturday and charged with grand theft, possession of another person’s identification and scheme to defraud, according to reports.
The allegations involve the spending spree at the Islamorada resort and the reported attempt to have expenses attributed to another guest.
The charges represent allegations, and a criminal accusation does not establish guilt. The case will proceed through the legal system as authorities and prosecutors address the allegations.
Luxury Resort Purchases Included Food and Clothing
The alleged spending was not limited to a single purchase.

Investigators reportedly identified charges covering drinks, meals, shirts, hats and other sundries, bringing the total amount allegedly connected to Keasler to $2,419.
For the guest who discovered more than $900 on her room account, the situation reportedly began as an unexpected hotel bill before investigators uncovered the larger spending history.
The case also highlights the role hotel security can play in identifying questionable room charges. Security personnel reportedly worked with detectives to follow the transaction trail and determine who allegedly made the purchases.
Keasler Is No Longer in Jail
Keasler was taken to the Monroe County Jail following his arrest. However, he is no longer listed as being in custody there, according to inmate records cited in reports.
The investigation previously resulted in Wallace’s arrest last December, and authorities have continued examining the circumstances surrounding the resort charges.
At this stage, the allegations center on whether the two individuals unlawfully obtained or used another guest’s information to cover purchases made at the resort.
The reported $2,419 total includes the disputed charges that investigators allegedly linked to Keasler.
