17 Fireworks Injury Victims Treated at Metro Hospitals on Friday

By 5 p.m. Friday, at least 17 people in the metro area had been treated for fireworks-related injuries.

The University of Kansas Health System reported injuries among males ranging in age from 6 to 58. Victims suffered injuries to the hands, arm, face, and eye, according to a news release from the health system.

The fireworks involved included a smoke bomb, crackling ball, bottle rocket, sparkler, and mortar.

Three people were admitted to hospitals for further care, the release stated.

The data came from the Burnett Burn Center at the University of Kansas Hospital and the health system’s campuses in Olathe and Liberty.

Children’s Mercy Hospital also reported treating seven patients for fireworks-related injuries. The injured children were between 3 and 16 years old, with injuries affecting the hands, face, feet, arms, and legs, according to their communications and marketing department.
