Colorado Springs Man Arrested After Runaway Child Alerts Mother She Was Being Held Against Her Will

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A 62-year-old man has been arrested after a runaway child contacted her mother online, claiming she was being held against her will along with another juvenile.

According to a police blotter update, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received the report just after 12:30 a.m. on Friday. The child, who had previously been reported as a runaway, reached out to her mother via the internet, sharing her location and stating she and another juvenile were being held involuntarily.

Multiple police units from across the city—including Stetson Hills, Sand Creek, Gold Hill, and DART—responded and quickly launched a search. Officers were able to locate the juveniles safely at an apartment on Victoria Street, near Fountain Boulevard and South Nevada Avenue.

The Crimes Against Children Unit took over the investigation once the juveniles were found.

Following their inquiry, police arrested Jerome Scott, 62, on several serious charges:

  • Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust

  • Unlawful Dispensing of a Controlled Substance

  • Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor

  • Harboring a Minor

Scott was booked into the El Paso County Jail, where he remained in custody as of Friday afternoon. A booking photo was not available at the time of the report.
