Colorado’s Infamous Black Bear Pass Reopens for the Season

One of Colorado’s most notorious and breathtaking mountain roads is officially open for the season.

Black Bear Pass, perched high above Bridal Veil Falls near Telluride, is now accessible, according to Visit Telluride. Known for its tight switchbacks, extreme drop-offs, and dramatic scenery, the pass draws thrill-seeking off-roaders every summer.

The route begins near the summit of Red Mountain Pass at about 11,018 feet and climbs to a high point of roughly 12,840 feet over 8.5 miles, gaining more than 1,800 feet in elevation before descending into Telluride as one-way traffic.
