Eglin Air Force Base, Florida — A 26-year-old Air Force technician from Texas has been identified after her body was discovered inside a burned vehicle near Eglin Air Force Base, authorities said.
The discovery was made several days before the Air Force publicly released the woman’s identity, as investigators continued working to determine what happened.
According to Eglin Air Force Base, a routine patrol by the 96th Security Forces Squadron located the burned car around 4:30 a.m. at Range Road 234 and Lewis Turner Boulevard.
The vehicle was found near the Florida military installation, prompting an investigation and efforts to identify the person inside.
Air Force Identifies the Woman
On Sept. 26, Eglin Air Force Base announced that the Air Force Medical Examiner had positively identified the person as Senior Airman Tamera Moniq Bolden-Cleckley, 26, of Boerne, Texas.
Bolden-Cleckley was assigned to the 96th Surgical Operations Squadron, where she worked as a diagnostic imaging specialist.
Her role involved radiology services as part of her assignment with the Air Force.
The identification came several days after the burned vehicle was initially discovered during the early-morning patrol. Eglin officials did not provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding her death in the latest announcement.
Bolden-Cleckley Joined the Air Force in 2021
Bolden-Cleckley joined the U.S. Air Force in 2021 before being assigned to the surgical operations squadron at Eglin. Her death prompted condolences from military leaders at the base, who described her as a valued member of the Eglin community.
“Senior Airman Bolden-Cleckley was a valued member of the 96th Test Wing team, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and fellow Airmen during this difficult time,” Col. Chris Keithley, 96th TW commander, said.
Keithley also emphasized that support would be available to Airmen and others affected by the death.
“We remain committed to supporting those affected by this loss and encourage anyone who needs assistance to reach out to any of our helping agencies,” he continued.
Military Leaders Offer Condolences to Her Family
Col. Daniel Micsunescu, commander of the 96th Surgical Group, also expressed condolences following the identification. Micsunescu extended his “deepest condolences to Tamera’s family, friends, and all those who knew and cared for her.”
The statements from the commanders came as members of the Eglin community dealt with the loss of one of their fellow Airmen. No additional information about Bolden-Cleckley’s personal life or the circumstances leading to the vehicle fire was released by the base.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) is continuing to investigate the incident.
Officials have not announced a cause of death, explained how the vehicle caught fire or disclosed whether investigators have identified any suspects or persons of interest.
Eglin Air Force Base said AFOSI will not release further information at this time, leaving many details about the circumstances surrounding the discovery unanswered.
