If you’re planning to hit the road for the Fourth of July weekend in Colorado, be ready for big crowds and changing weather.
The Colorado Department of Transportation expects even heavier travel than last year, when more than 235,000 people passed through the Eisenhower Tunnel over the holiday.
What’s in Store Weather-Wise?
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday, July 3, will bring a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms starting after 9 a.m. The day will be partly sunny with a high near 86°F. Slow-moving storms may increase the risk of heavy rain and localized flash flooding, especially in flood-prone areas.
On Independence Day, the chance of storms drops to just 10%, and temperatures are expected to rise, with a high near 93°F—perfect for outdoor festivities if conditions stay dry.
Looking Ahead to Next Week
The heat is expected to intensify by midweek. The Weather Channel is forecasting extreme temperatures topping 100°F starting Wednesday, July 9. It’s early, but if the predictions hold, finding ways to stay cool will be essential.
