Colorado drivers can expect heavier law enforcement presence on the roads this Fourth of July weekend, as officials aim to prevent impaired driving deaths.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is backing State Patrol and 51 local law enforcement agencies during a DUI enforcement campaign that starts today and runs through July 7.
Throughout the six-day period, drivers may come across sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and more officers on duty.
To help reduce DUI incidents in Colorado Springs, the Whitlaw Law Firm is offering free ride reimbursements for those celebrating. Simply submit a ride receipt through their website to receive up to $20 back on a one-way Lyft or Uber trip.
The initiative comes during what officials refer to as the “100 deadliest days of summer”—the stretch between Memorial Day and Labor Day when traffic deaths typically increase.
So far this year, 82 lives have been lost in impaired driving crashes across Colorado. During this high-risk season, one in three traffic fatalities involves a driver under the influence.
