GameStop class-action settlement: GameStop Customers could receive Cash Payout in Privacy Breach Settlement

A class-action lawsuit filed by Alejandro Aldana and Scott Gallie against GameStop has resulted in a $4.5 million settlement over an alleged privacy breach. The lawsuit claimed that GameStop shared customers’ personally identifiable information with Facebook via the Facebook Tracking Pixel without consent, violating the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA).

Who is eligible?

Customers who purchased a video game from GameStop’s website between August 18, 2020, and April 17, 2025, and had a public Facebook account displaying the name used at the time of purchase, may be eligible for compensation.

What can you receive?

Eligible customers can choose to receive either:

  • A cash payment of up to $5
  • A voucher worth up to $10 to use on GameStop’s website.

How to get compensation:

  • Submit a claim on the official settlement website: gamestopvppasettlement.com
  • The deadline to submit a claim is August 15, 2025.
  • The submission form requires your full name, address, email, phone number, and proof of ownership of a Facebook account (either a link or a screenshot of your profile).
  • If you received an email about the settlement, it may contain a unique ID to use for online submission. If not, you can complete a paper claim form.
