Two homeless men were fatally stabbed early Sunday morning in Aurora, and police believe the incidents are “likely connected.” Authorities have now identified and detained a person of interest, though no formal charges related to the homicides have been filed.
The two stabbings occurred less than half a mile apart and within about four hours of each other. According to Aurora police, the first victim was found around 1:45 a.m. near Moline Street and East Colfax Avenue with multiple stab wounds. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man was found unresponsive at a nearby bus stop near Peoria Street and East Colfax Avenue around 6:30 a.m. He, too, was declared dead on the scene.
By Monday evening, police confirmed that a person of interest had been arrested Sunday afternoon by a different law enforcement agency on unrelated charges. Authorities are not releasing the individual’s identity unless he is officially charged in connection with the stabbings.

Experts warn that people experiencing homelessness are particularly vulnerable to violent crime. A 2024 study by the Journal of the Missouri State Medical Association noted that homeless individuals are far more likely to be victims than perpetrators of violence.
The National Coalition for the Homeless has documented about 2,000 violent acts against homeless individuals over the past 23 years—at least 588 of them fatal. Alarmingly, nearly half of the attacks between 2020 and 2022 resulted in death.
