A 59-year-old man died Tuesday night after a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Colorado Highway 9.
The man, from Colorado Springs, was crossing the highway near mile point 90, close to the intersection with Tiger Road, between Frisco and Breckenridge, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Sherri Mendez. A 35-year-old man from Black Hawk, driving a northbound Ford Mustang, struck the pedestrian.
While the crash remains under investigation, Mendez said preliminary findings indicate the driver braked before the impact, the pedestrian crossed in front of the vehicle, and the pedestrian was at fault for the accident.
Colorado State Patrol and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash around 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The Summit County Coroner’s Office will release the pedestrian’s identity after notifying his next of kin, Mendez said.
