Bystander Stops Pueblo Armed Robbery Attempt; Victim Snaps Photo of Suspect

PUEBLO, Colo. — Pueblo police arrested a 23-year-old man after an attempted armed robbery Wednesday morning in the University Park neighborhood, thanks to a quick-thinking bystander and a photo captured by the victim.

Around 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 13, officers responded to the 800 block of Desert Flower Boulevard, where a masked suspect dressed in black demanded a woman’s purse and keys. When she resisted, a bystander stepped in. Police say the suspect then pulled a handgun before fleeing on foot.

The victim managed to snap a photo, which helped officers track the man to Blueflax Drive and Bluestem Boulevard, where he had altered his appearance. Investigators also recovered a bag containing the gun and clothing used in the crime.

The suspect, Ryan Childers-Pierce, was arrested without incident and faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Robbery with a Real/Simulated Weapon, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, Menacing with a Deadly Weapon, Fugitive of Justice, and Violation of a Protection Order – Alcohol.

His bond was set at $50,200, police said.
