Colorado Grants $17.3 Million for Clean Transportation Projects to Boost Air Quality and Connectivity

Colorado has taken a major step toward cleaner air and better transportation with the announcement of grant recipients from CDOT’s NAAPME program. Eleven projects across the state will share $17.3 million, each aiming to reduce the impact of vehicles on air quality, especially in areas where ozone levels exceed federal standards.

Priority went to projects that benefit disproportionately impacted communities, according to CDOT News. With 20 applicants and a rigorous review process, the goal is to build a cleaner, more connected Colorado. NAAPME Program Administrator Darius Pakbaz noted, “These projects represent a significant step forward in our efforts to create a cleaner, healthier Colorado, especially for our disproportionately impacted communities.”

Loveland will use its share to improve corridor connectivity, while Greeley’s “Greeley Connected: Mobility Hubs Project” will integrate multiple transit modes with new infrastructure. Senior Urban Transportation Planner Victoria Leonhardt said, “These hubs will help improve access, reduce emissions, and support a stronger local economy by connecting people to more options — whether they walk, bike, ride transit, or drive electric.”

In Weld County, part of the funding will build a roundabout at WCR 59 and CO 52 to improve traffic flow, enhance air quality, and increase safety for students and families near schools. The project will also benefit the disproportionately impacted communities of Hudson, Lochbuie, and Keenesburg. Adams County will use its funding to complete missing sidewalks and curb ramps, ensuring safe access for transit riders traveling to and from the future Federal Bus Rapid Transit corridor.
