Arizona can expect another round of isolated severe thunderstorms on Sunday, August 10, 2025, with activity focused on the Mogollon Rim and southern Arizona. While similar to Saturday’s forecast, this round will bring wider coverage across the state.
Storm development on the Mogollon Rim is expected to begin around noon and last into the late afternoon and evening. In southern Arizona, storms will likely start around 2 p.m. and continue into the evening hours. An upper-level trough will provide lift for the Rim area, while moderate to high instability levels point toward a strong chance of severe weather. Combined with surface heating, terrain influences, and orographic lifting, conditions are primed for intense storms.
On the Rim—particularly in southern Coconino, Gila, southern Apache, Navajo, and northern Greenlee counties—residents should prepare for strong gusts of 50–70 mph, hail up to one inch in diameter, and localized flooding. Thunderstorms may also form near Flagstaff, Payson, and Show Low. In the south, storms will develop later in the day from central to eastern Pima, Santa Cruz, Cochise, and Graham counties, bringing similar severe threats along with the possibility of dust storms and reduced visibility. Tucson, Sierra Vista, Benson, and Safford are all likely to see at least nearby thunderstorm activity.
Looking ahead to Monday, August 11, storm activity will ease compared to the weekend, but a few isolated afternoon and early evening thunderstorms could still pop up in eastern Arizona. The next significant wave of monsoon storms is expected on August 14 and 15. No tropical storm or hurricane development is anticipated in the Tropical East Pacific basin over the next few days.
