One Person Found Dead in Poudre Canyon House Fire; Cause Under Investigation

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — One person was found dead after a house fire early Tuesday in Poudre Canyon, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 5 along the 8700 block of West Highway 14, near the Greyrock Trailhead. Fire crews from the Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District, sheriff’s deputies, UCHealth EMS, and wildland emergency teams responded to the scene.

When they arrived, the single home was fully engulfed. The blaze was contained before sunrise and held to roughly one acre, authorities said.

Because of the fire’s intensity, investigators could not confirm immediately whether anyone had been inside. A forensic team later recovered human remains from the debris Tuesday night. The victim has not yet been identified, and the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.

The fire occurred during red flag weather conditions. The sheriff’s office issued a voluntary evacuation alert to 591 contacts in the area, and deputies went door-to-door to notify residents. The evacuation order was lifted by 3:50 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
