4 Arrested After Gunfight Between Off-Duty Prison Workers and Alleged Carjackers in Pueblo

Four men have been arrested in connection with a July 10 shootout at a Pueblo park involving off-duty Colorado prison staffers and a group of alleged carjackers, police confirmed in an Aug. 4 news release.

🚨 Arrested and Charged

The suspects—Quincy Stephens (20), Damion Trujillo (20), Marcus Pechek (19), and Juaquin Trujillo (19)—were arrested on charges of:

  • Attempted second-degree homicide

  • Aggravated robbery

A 16-year-old male suspect is still on the run, according to Pueblo Police.

🔫 What Happened at the Park

The confrontation took place around 2:40 a.m. at Sgt. Blake A. Harris Skateboard Park in City Park. Five off-duty Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) employees were hanging out—skating, playing football, and socializing—when a group of five individuals allegedly tried to carjack one of their vehicles.

Gunfire broke out between at least one CDOC staffer and one suspect, leaving:

  • Two suspects with gunshot wounds

  • One CDOC worker injured

Officers later found 70 shell casings at the scene.

🏥 Injured Taken to Hospitals

Three of the injured—two suspects and one prison staffer—were treated at local hospitals. Notably, one suspect was abandoned by his group and was later transported to the hospital by the victims themselves, according to Pueblo Police spokesperson Bianca Hicks.

👮 Custody Status and Court Dates

As of Aug. 4:

  • Stephens and Damion Trujillo remained in custody at Pueblo County Jail

  • Pechek and Juaquin Trujillo were released on bond after spending nearly six and three days in custody, respectively

  • Stephens: First court appearance on Aug. 21

  • Pechek: Plea hearing on Aug. 14

  • Damion Trujillo: Bond hearing on Aug. 14

  • Juaquin Trujillo: Court setting on Aug. 14

All four cases are set before Judge William Alexander.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to search for the fifth suspect involved in the incident.
