A Colorado firefighting plane was forced to make an emergency landing on Friday due to a mechanical issue with its landing gear.
The Colorado Department of Fire Prevention and Control said the Pilatus PC-12 Multi-Mission Aircraft was returning from a detection mission along the western slope when the flight crew noticed a problem with the nose landing gear.
As a precaution, the crew declared an emergency and landed the plane at Grand Junction Regional Airport. Although the nose gear failed to lock into place, the pilots managed a controlled landing and brought the aircraft to a stop on the runway.
No injuries were reported, and officials confirmed the incident will be investigated following FAA and NTSB protocols.
