COLORADO SPRINGS — Police officers responding to a domestic disturbance late Wednesday night said they heard a gun being armed just moments before gunfire erupted, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on July 30 in the 1100 block of Norwood Avenue, near Lake and Southgate Road. Officers were dispatched after receiving an anonymous report of a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers tried to speak with a man and woman inside the home through a closed door or window. CSPD described the man as “uncooperative” and “highly agitated” by the officers’ presence, while the woman told police there was no issue.
As officers returned to their patrol vehicles, they saw the man come out of the house and heard the distinctive sound of a firearm slide being racked. Officers immediately took cover. Moments later, they reported hearing three gunshots. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The suspect, identified as Marcus Curry, went back inside the home. After a brief standoff, officers arrested him without further incident. The woman was found safe.
Curry is now facing charges of Attempted Assault in the First Degree.
