Red Flag Warning Issued as Fire Danger Rises Across Western Slope

As temperatures climb this weekend, fire weather conditions are expected to worsen. A Red Flag Warning is in effect Saturday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Mesa and Garfield Counties, as well as parts of Montrose and Delta Counties and much of the Western Slope.

Gusty winds—up to 30 mph—will accompany sunny skies and highs near 96° in Grand Junction, driven by a strong jet stream over western Colorado. Authorities urge extreme caution with anything that could spark a fire.

Looking ahead to next week, highs will remain in the mid-to-upper 90s to start, but some moisture is expected to return midweek. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are 20% likely on Wednesday and 30% likely on Thursday, though timing may shift. Some models suggest the rain could hit earlier, mostly on Wednesday.

Forecasters will closely monitor how much rain areas like Junction, Delta, and Montrose actually receive as the new week begins.
