Former Colorado Springs Teacher Arrested on Child Sex Assault Charges

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs police are looking for more potential victims in a child sex assault case involving a former elementary school teacher arrested last month.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), the Crimes Against Children Unit began investigating 66-year-old Matthew Gogan in April after a victim came forward with allegations of a sexual assault that took place five years ago. During the investigation, detectives identified a second victim who had previously reported concerns about Gogan’s behavior.

Gogan was taken into custody on June 12 and faces two counts of Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust.

Police confirmed Gogan worked as a teacher at Stratton Meadows Elementary School, located on the city’s southwest side. Harrison School District 2 reported that Gogan was employed at the school from August 6, 2018, to May 22, 2020.

Authorities believe there could be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
