KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A tragic shooting in Lawrence late Thursday night left two men dead and a woman fighting for her life, according to local police.
Officers responded just after 8 p.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at Edgewood Homes, located at 1600 Haskell Ave. One caller reported seeing a man firing a gun while running through a parking lot.
When police arrived, they found three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One man was found dead inside a truck, and another was discovered deceased on the ground nearby. Investigators believe the second man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A woman who had been shot was flown to a trauma center and remains in critical condition.
According to police, the incident appears to have stemmed from a recent breakup. Preliminary findings suggest the woman arrived home to find her ex-boyfriend inside. After an altercation, she ran to a truck where another man was waiting. Police believe the ex-boyfriend followed her, fatally shot the man in the truck, then shot the woman as she tried to escape before taking his own life.
Authorities have identified the male victim in the truck as 21-year-old Javien K. Hardin. The investigation remains ongoing.
