WASHINGTON, D.C. – White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Thursday that President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with a chronic blood condition, following public speculation over visible bruising and leg swelling during recent appearances.
Leavitt addressed the concerns during a briefing, citing a memo from the President’s physician. According to the statement, Trump recently experienced mild swelling in his lower legs, prompting a full evaluation by the White House Medical Unit.
“In keeping with routine medical care and out of an abundance of caution, this concern was thoroughly evaluated,” Leavitt said.
Testing, including ultrasounds, confirmed the President has chronic venous insufficiency—a common and benign condition, especially in people over age 70. There were no signs of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease, she emphasized.
The President also underwent blood work and an echocardiogram, both of which returned normal results.
Explanation for Hand Bruising
Leavitt also addressed the bruising on the back of Trump’s hand, which had fueled additional speculation online.
“The discoloration is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation caused by frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which he takes as part of a cardiovascular health regimen,” she explained.
A copy of the medical note will be shared with reporters to ensure transparency.
Health Disclosure Comes Amid Biden Comparisons
The White House’s decision to publicly disclose Trump’s diagnosis comes shortly after former President Joe Biden’s cancer revelation, which sparked demands for greater transparency in presidential health matters.
Whether this latest statement will ease concerns or prompt further scrutiny remains to be seen.
