Severe weather could strike parts of Arkansas and Oklahoma on Sunday, according to warnings from the National Weather Service.
The alert follows a week of flash flooding in Texas and North Carolina, and now, meteorologists are closely watching storm activity brewing in the central U.S.
A report noted that a funnel cloud was spotted above the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday — though it never developed into a tornado. Experts warn the threat remains for damaging winds, hail, flash flooding, and possibly more funnel cloud activity in both states throughout Sunday.
What To Do When Severe Weather Strikes:
Stay Weather Ready
-
Tune into local news or a NOAA Weather Radio for the latest watches and warnings.
If You’re At Home
-
Move to your secure shelter immediately during a severe thunderstorm warning.
-
Take pets with you if there’s time.
-
Stay away from windows.
If You’re At Work or School
-
Avoid open areas like gymnasiums or cafeterias.
-
Stay clear of windows and move to interior rooms on the lowest floor.
If You’re Outdoors
-
Go inside a sturdy building as soon as possible.
-
Avoid sheds or temporary structures.
-
Never shelter under trees — they can fall or attract lightning.
If You’re In a Vehicle
-
A car is safer than being outside, but drive to a nearby building or secure shelter if time allows.
Meteorologists urge residents in the region to prepare now and monitor conditions closely throughout the day as these potentially dangerous storms approach.
