PHARR, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized over a ton of methamphetamine hidden in a commercial truck hauling papayas from Mexico at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility on July 6, 2025.
CBP reported that the truck was referred for a secondary inspection where officers used a canine unit and nonintrusive inspection equipment. A physical search revealed 384 packages of methamphetamine, weighing a total of 2,571.69 pounds.
The estimated street value of the drugs is $23,647,288.
CBP seized both the narcotics and the commercial tractor-trailer. Homeland Security Investigations has launched a criminal investigation into the case.
“This massive methamphetamine seizure reflects the dangerous reality of the drug threat our officers face every day and the effective utilization of experience and technology to zero-in and take down these loads,” said Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director for the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
