A heated exchange erupted on CNN Tuesday night when political commentator Tiffany Cross accused former President Donald Trump’s administration of “kidnapping” migrants and placing them in “concentration camps.” The fiery debate took place during a segment discussing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, including a recent high-profile operation in Los Angeles’ MacArthur Park.
“They Are Disappearing People”
Cross, formerly of MSNBC, delivered an impassioned critique of Trump’s immigration policy, saying:
“We are normalizing a government agency disappearing people. We’re talking about it like it’s no big deal that they are kidnapping people and transporting them to concentration camps, both domestic and foreign.”
Her use of the term “concentration camps” drew sharp criticism from Kelly Jane Torrance, New York Post editor-at-large, who called it “insulting to Jewish Holocaust survivors.”
Backlash and Rebuttals
Torrance challenged Cross, asking if “gas ovens” existed in ICE detention centers—a pointed comparison aimed at disputing the Holocaust analogy. But Cross doubled down:
“It doesn’t matter! It’s a concentration camp. What they’re doing is disappearing people… To do the victim Olympics and decide who had it worse — I can participate in that too.”
When Torrance asked for clarity on where migrants were “disappearing,” Cross shot back, “Aren’t you a reporter?” adding that history would not look kindly on those defending the administration’s actions.
Context: ICE Raids and Protests
The segment followed reports of heavily armed federal agents, some on horseback, conducting raids at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, prompting outrage from local leaders. Mayor Karen Bass wrote on X:
“Minutes before, more than 20 kids were playing — then the MILITARY comes through. The SECOND I heard about this, I went to the park to speak to the person in charge to tell them it needed to end NOW.”
The crackdown is part of Trump’s intensified immigration enforcement efforts, with growing reports of arrests in public places—from grocery stores and gyms to restaurants—sparking protests and viral videos across the country.
Violence Adds to Tensions
The controversy was further inflamed by a violent ambush last week in Texas, where 10 people were charged with attempting to murder federal agents outside the Prairieland Detention Center. The incident, described as a “planned ambush,” underscored the heightened tension surrounding immigration enforcement.

Cross closed the segment with a powerful rebuke:
“Five, ten, twenty years from now, I hope you can look back at this very clip and realize you were on the wrong side of history if you’re defending what’s happening.”
