Bronx, New York — A fundraiser for an 8-month-old girl who survived a 15-story fall that killed her mother has raised more than $32,000, as family members, friends and community supporters rally around the infant following the October 6 tragedy.
The child’s mother, 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez, was found holding her daughter outside their Bronx apartment building early that morning, according to the New York Police Department. Ramirez later died after being taken to a hospital, while her baby was reported to be in critical but stable condition.
Authorities have arrested Ramirez’s former boyfriend, 31-year-old Angel Carrasco, in connection with the incident. He faces multiple criminal charges and has pleaded not guilty.
GoFundMe Raises More Than $32,000 for the Baby
The online fundraiser was created to help Ramirez’s mother cover memorial expenses and support the baby as she raises her granddaughter.
As of Wednesday afternoon, October 14, the campaign had collected more than $32,000 toward its $35,000 goal. The fundraiser also offers a glimpse into Ramirez’s relationship with her daughter and the grief experienced by those who knew her.
“[She] knew one of life’s greatest joys in becoming a mother, and her baby girl meant everything to her,” a section of the fundraiser states. “The love Michelle gave so deeply will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her most.”
Ramirez was known as Michelle to loved ones. Friends and family described her as a devoted mother whose daughter was central to her life.
The donations are intended to help the family navigate the immediate financial challenges following her death while providing support for the child’s future.
Mother Found Holding Her Baby After the Fall
Police said Ramirez and her infant daughter were found outside the apartment building in the Bronx during the early morning hours of October 6.
The circumstances surrounding the fall are part of the criminal investigation. According to reports citing police, Ramirez was found clutching her daughter in an embrace. Investigators have considered whether she was attempting to protect the child during the incident.
A neighbor also reportedly described hearing Ramirez pleading for her baby during a confrontation.
“I heard her yelling and screaming, ‘Please don’t do this. My baby. You know my baby is scared. Look at her face,’” the neighbor reportedly told authorities, according to the account provided in the original reporting.
The account has added to the emotional impact of the case as investigators work to establish the events leading up to the deaths and injuries.
Friends Remember Ramirez as a Caring and Hardworking Mother
Beyond the circumstances of her death, Ramirez’s loved ones have remembered her for her personality, professional ambitions and kindness toward others.
Her former employer, Lishawn Alexander, described her as a dedicated worker who pursued her career goals with determination.
“She was a gem to work with,” Alexander told. “She was a very radiant person. She was very hardworking, showed tenacity and dedication to pursue her career goals.”
The GoFundMe campaign similarly describes Ramirez as joyful, energetic and caring.
“Michelle was known for her joyful, energetic, caring, and loving spirit. It was hard to remember a day when she was not smiling,” another section reads. “She had a beautiful way of lifting people up, making others feel seen, and sharing love so freely.”
A former classmate from Bronx Leadership Academy also remembered Ramirez during a vigil held after her death. Speaking to NBC News, the classmate recalled how Ramirez would joke with people who were having a difficult day to help lift their spirits.
These memories have become an important part of the community’s effort to honor Ramirez while supporting her surviving daughter.
Ex-Boyfriend Faces Multiple Charges
Carrasco, 31, has been arrested in connection with the incident and faces several charges, according to online court records cited in the reporting.
The charges include one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, manslaughter with intent to cause injury, assault with intent to cause serious injury with a weapon, and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held without bail.
Investigators reportedly found flowers inside Ramirez’s apartment that they believed Carrasco had brought in an attempt to reconcile the relationship. Police had also previously accused him of slapping Ramirez and breaking into her apartment earlier in 2026, according to reports citing police accounts.
The available court records reportedly did not show charges related to that earlier case as of October 14. The allegations remain subject to the legal process, and Carrasco is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
