A Phoenix man has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after allegedly kidnapping, assaulting, and imprisoning his girlfriend in a backyard shed for at least two weeks.
Police say 36-year-old Timothy James Wood kept the woman locked inside a shed behind his father’s home, where she endured ongoing physical and sexual abuse. The victim managed to escape on July 2 and called 911 around 4 p.m. after running to a neighbor’s house for help.
According to the woman, she had recently been evicted and was taken in by Wood, only to be held captive. She told police he used a tow strap to bind her ankle, chained the shed doors, and stacked bricks to trap her inside.
Court documents state that Wood assaulted her repeatedly during the two-week period. He allegedly beat her with an electrical cord and used a wood saw to cut her foot when she refused his sexual demands. She also said he forced her to wear makeup to hide facial injuries and threatened her life while kneeling on her neck.
The victim further claimed that, at one point, Wood buried her in a crawl space beneath the shed for two days.
Officers arrested Wood at the scene. He is now facing charges that include kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, sexual assault, criminal threat, assault, and three counts of aggravated assault.
In bond court, Wood denied all allegations, stating that the woman “just got out of the loony bin” and was making false claims.
However, investigators discovered evidence in the shed — including chains, tow straps, and a mattress — supporting the victim’s account. A forensic nurse also confirmed that her injuries were consistent with the reported abuse.
Hospital staff later verified visible injuries such as bite marks and a broken rib, adding further credibility to the woman’s claims.
