KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fredrick Scott, the man accused of killing six people in the Kansas City area in 2017, has been found competent to stand trial.
Scott, whose alleged victims include three men found along the Indian Creek Trail system, was previously declared unfit for trial after a disruptive courtroom outburst. He was then committed to a state mental health facility for evaluation and treatment.
Now, following a recent evaluation, a Jackson County judge has determined that Scott is mentally competent to face the charges. A new hearing is scheduled for July 10, when a trial date is expected to be set.
Scott’s alleged 2017 killing spree sparked fear in both Missouri and Kansas communities, particularly in suburban areas along the Indian Creek Trail, which stretches into Johnson County.
His trial had originally been scheduled to begin last July before it was delayed due to mental competency concerns.
