A Logan County man is behind bars after a series of escalating events involving threats, property damage, gunfire, and a tense standoff that spanned two counties.
The trouble began Wednesday evening in southern Logan County, where deputies responded to a disturbance near Western and Simpson Road. A family member told authorities that 40-year-old Tony Ramos had threatened another relative, torn through the yard doing donuts, and damaged a fence. By the time deputies from Logan and Oklahoma counties arrived, Ramos had already fled the scene.
Things took a dangerous turn Thursday morning in Warr Acres, where Ramos was located. He barricaded himself inside a vehicle near Purdue Street and NW 16th Street, prompting a large police response including tactical units from the Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD).
Witnesses and reports say Ramos fired a gun in the neighborhood, and a nearby school called 911 after hearing the shots. As police surrounded the area, Ramos drove his vehicle into the garage of a home, where he remained holed up for more than 90 minutes.
In an effort to safely end the standoff, officers deployed gas into the garage. Ramos eventually surrendered with his hands up, but not before officers had to use a stun gun to take him into custody.
Later that day, a protective order was issued against Ramos in Logan County. He was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on two felony charges:
-
Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
-
Pointing a firearm
He is currently held on a $300,000 bond, with arraignment expected as early as Monday.
As of Sunday afternoon, Ramos remained in custody.
