Highway 85 Reopens in Colorado Springs After Fatal Shooting and Crash

A section of Highway 85 in southern Colorado has reopened following an overnight closure due to a deadly shooting and a crash.

According to KKTV in Colorado Springs, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported robbery around 10:45 p.m. Thursday near Highway 85 between Main Street and Academy Boulevard. When deputies arrived, they discovered two individuals dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Authorities are now searching for a person of interest connected to the incident.

During the investigation, a suspected drunk driver struck a patrol vehicle. A deputy sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Colorado State Patrol is handling the crash investigation. All lanes of Highway 85 were reopened by around 8 a.m. Friday.
