Colorado Springs Police have arrested a 25-year-old man who tried to flee after being found with a stolen vehicle.
On Wednesday, July 2, the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit spotted a stolen blue 2015 Subaru Legacy near N. Chestnut Street and Garden of the Gods Road by I-25. While officers kept watch, the driver was seen carrying a handgun and later bought ammunition from a nearby outdoor sports store.
With help from the Colorado State Patrol air unit, police tracked the suspect—identified as 25-year-old Sammy Williams—to the Shadow Mountain apartments. When officers moved in to arrest him outside the car, Williams jumped back in and attempted to drive away.
A CSPD sergeant quickly blocked the car, preventing his escape. Williams then surrendered and was found carrying a loaded Rock Island Armory M1911 .45 caliber handgun.
He now faces charges of Motor Vehicle Theft, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, and Obstruction. He was booked into the Criminal Justice Center.
