The Pueblo Police Department has installed four cameras at the corner of Mesa Avenue and Elm Street to enhance safety in the Bessemer neighborhood.
Deputy Chief James Martin said the new camera trailer system will support ongoing police investigations. The setup involves trailers equipped with four mounted cameras, three of which can be directed toward specific areas of concern.
The live camera feed is monitored at the department’s Real Time Crime Center.
“Our Real Time Crime Center technicians watch the feeds to spot any criminal activity. If something’s happening, we can send officers to the location right away,” Martin explained.
Martin added that the department deploys these mobile units based on crime patterns.
“Some residents let us know about ongoing crime in the area, so we placed a camera there to help address those issues,” he said.
He emphasized that video surveillance plays a key role in supporting officers at active scenes and contributes to public safety.
“These cameras help officers understand what’s happening before they arrive on scene,” Martin said.
The trailer was placed at Mesa Avenue and Elm Street following reports from neighbors about criminal activity in Bessemer.
“Our goal is to deliver the best service to our community, and we use these trailers to help lower crime and improve quality of life,” Martin said.
Powered by solar energy, the camera trailer operates 24/7. Martin clarified that the cameras record video only, with no audio.
