More bad news has hit Colorado workers, as over 150 food service employees are now out of a job following unexpected layoffs by Sodexo.
Sodexo Layoffs Hit Pikes Peak Location
On June 11, 2025, Sodexo—a global food services and facilities management company based in France—filed a notice with the Colorado Department of Labor through the state’s WARN system, reporting the closure of its Pikes Peak facility. The move triggered layoffs for 152 workers, most of them employed in food service roles.
Why the Sudden Layoffs?
Typically, Colorado employers planning mass layoffs (defined as 100 or more employees) are required to provide at least 60 days’ notice under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. In this case, however, the short notice was due to what Sodexo called a sudden “loss of contract.”
Sodexo’s client, Academy School District 20, decided to end its agreement with the company for K-12 cafeteria services. Instead, Aramark will now provide food services for the district.
Layoff Timeline and Impact
Sodexo informed employees of the layoffs on June 11. Their final day on the job was June 30, leaving just 19 days between the notice and termination—well below the usual 60-day requirement. The abrupt shift was permitted under WARN Act provisions for unforeseen business circumstances.
What’s Next?
This unexpected development has left 152 people without jobs, sparking concern across the Colorado food service industry. The layoffs affect not only individual workers but also the local community that relied on their services.
This is a developing story. More updates are expected as further details emerge.
