COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Several individuals were arrested Monday evening after allegedly interfering with a tow truck operation and assaulting police officers, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
The incident occurred around 5:31 p.m. in the 2000 block of Southgate Road. Police say a group of people obstructed a tow truck driver who was attempting to remove a vehicle, even striking the truck during the disturbance.
Complex Management, which had ordered the vehicle’s removal, was present at the scene. During the incident, a person got into the vehicle being towed, backed it out, and struck a member of management before fleeing the area, according to CSPD.
When officers arrived, several suspects began walking away. One juvenile, identified by witnesses, initially cooperated but then became combative. Police say the juvenile resisted arrest and kicked another vehicle, causing damage.
The juvenile’s mother allegedly attacked officers, punching one multiple times. Other individuals also began to surround and confront police, prompting officers to call for emergency backup. Additional officers arrived and took two more people into custody.
The juvenile was arrested on misdemeanor charges and later released to a parent. The mother was booked into the Criminal Justice Center (CJC) for assaulting a police officer. The person who fled the scene in the vehicle later turned themselves in and was also booked into the CJC.
Several officers were injured during the confrontation but remained on duty.
CSPD is asking anyone with video footage of the incident, not already provided to police, to come forward.
