CSPD: Officer Injured While Arresting Unconscious Driver Who Tried to Flee

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 1) — A Colorado Springs police officer was injured Tuesday morning while attempting to arrest a man who was reportedly found unconscious behind the wheel of a damaged vehicle.

Around 6:45 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Tenderfoot Hill Road, near Lake Avenue, after a caller reported an unconscious man in a car that appeared to have been in a crash.

Police said they discovered Jose Alamanzar unresponsive in the driver’s seat. When officers attempted to remove him from the vehicle, Alamanzar allegedly resisted arrest and fled on foot.

Officers pursued and detained him shortly after. During the arrest, one officer suffered a minor shoulder injury, but remained on duty.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
