Colorado Safeways Affected by Ongoing Workers’ Strikes

As of Tuesday, more than 40 Safeway stores and a distribution center across Colorado are experiencing worker strikes. These walkouts are part of a broader movement led by United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 (UFCW Local 7), demanding better pay and working conditions.

🔹 Why the Strike?

Negotiations between the union and Safeway collapsed last week over wage disagreements. UFCW Local 7 claims Safeway and parent company Albertsons are offering salaries below market standards and less than what other local unions have secured during this bargaining cycle.

“Safeway remains committed to engaging in good-faith discussions to reach a new agreement with UFCW Local 7,” the company said in a statement on Monday.

🔹 Where Are Workers Striking?

Strikes have spread to dozens of Safeway locations across the state since the union voted to strike on June 6. Affected locations include a mix of urban and rural areas, and participation continues to grow.
