Lynda Zamora Wilson Appointed to Fill Colorado Senate District 9 Vacancy

EL PASO COUNTY — Republican Lynda Zamora Wilson has been chosen to represent Colorado’s Senate District 9 following the resignation of former Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen.

Wilson, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel, previously worked as a Pentagon analyst and economics professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy. She ran against Lundeen in 2022, earning just over 33% of the vote.

On Monday, a vacancy committee of El Paso County Republicans selected Wilson over former state Rep. Terri Carver in a 63-50 vote. Senate District 9 includes northern Colorado Springs, the Air Force Academy, and the towns of Monument and Palmer Lake.

“I am thrilled to welcome Senator-Elect Wilson as she joins the Colorado State Senate,” said Senate Minority Leader Cleave Simpson. “She’ll be a vital part of our work to tackle rising costs, improve public safety, and make sure every Coloradan’s voice is heard in the Capitol.”

House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese also praised Wilson, calling her “a needed voice” and highlighting her public service experience.

Lundeen announced his resignation last month to take a leadership role with the American Excellence Foundation in Washington, D.C.

“Serving Colorado has been an honor and blessing,” Lundeen said. “As I move on to a national platform, I remain committed to advocating for personal freedom, economic opportunity, and common-sense conservative values.”
