DENVER — A Denver jury has convicted James Sanchez of first-degree murder in the March 2024 shooting death of Desiree Terrazas.
Police were called to the 2700 block of W. Iliff Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. on March 2, 2024, following reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a woman with gunshot injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
On March 6, the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the victim as 39-year-old Desiree Terrazas. Her death was ruled a homicide caused by a gunshot wound.
Investigators later determined the killing was domestic violence-related. Sanchez was arrested on March 7 in connection with her death.
On Tuesday, the Denver District Attorney’s Office confirmed Sanchez’s conviction. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 2 and faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
