Las Vegas police: 25-year-old traveled to Colorado to kidnap 14-year-old

KLAS (LAS VEGAS) – According to court records 8 News Now received Monday, a 25-year-old man abducted a 14-year-old girl he met online by traveling more than 700 miles in his roommate’s vehicle.

Cameron Scruggs was taken into custody by police on Wednesday, June 25.

Several law enforcement organizations, including the FBI, were involved in the search for the youngster after Scruggs was suspected of abducting her from Aurora, Colorado, on June 17.

On the day of his arrest, Scruggs and the teen were discovered in a northwest valley apartment by the FBI and Las Vegas Metro police, according to the authorities.

According to authorities, the teen, who was 13 when she started corresponding with Scruggs online and 14 when he was arrested, conversed with older guys on websites like Reddit and Discord.

According to records, the girl informed police that she “talked about life with each other” after meeting Scruggs online. After taking the teen to a motel, Scruggs took her to Las Vegas with his girlfriend. At a court hearing last week, Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Richard Scow stated, “This defendant drove to Colorado to pick her up from there and bring her to Las Vegas and have sex with her.”

According to records, the adolescent claimed to be living on a mattress on the floor of Scruggs’ apartment. The teenager was sexually molested by Scruggs during the week, according to the authorities. After first denying ever touching the girl, Scruggs admitted to having sex with her in an attempt to keep her “emotionally stable,” according to the police.

According to documents, Scruggs is charged with statutory sexual seduction. A court set bail at $150,000 last week. Scruggs’ lawyer pointed out during the hearing that his client has no criminal background. Scruggs was allegedly grooming the child, according to the prosecution.
