‘Large, Homemade Firecracker’ Temporarily Shuts Down CSPD Falcon Substation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — A “large, homemade firecracker” brought into the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Falcon substation on Sunday led to a temporary shutdown of the building’s lobby and parking lot.

According to CSPD, around 11:30 a.m. on June 29, a man walked into the substation on 7850 Goddard Street carrying what he believed to be a homemade firework. Officers immediately removed the device from inside the building and placed it in the parking lot as a precaution, while they awaited the arrival of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

Out of safety concerns, CSPD closed access to both the lobby and parking lot for about an hour and a half.

The EOD team arrived on scene, inspected the device, and successfully rendered it safe. The area was then cleared and reopened to the public.

Authorities say the investigation into the origin of the device is ongoing, and they’re working to determine where it came from.
