Tesla Cybertruck Hauling Woodchipper Sparks Grass Fire in Southwest Colorado

MONTROSE COUNTY, Colo. — A Tesla Cybertruck towing a woodchipper ignited a grass fire in southwestern Colorado on Sunday, burning more than half an acre of land west of Norwood.

Emergency crews responded around 1:15 p.m. after reports of black smoke and visible flames erupting from the vehicle. Initially, the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office believed a generator was involved, but later confirmed it was a towable woodchipper.

The fire quickly spread to dry grass on the surrounding private property, prompting a multi-agency response. Crews from Norwood Fire, Naturita Fire, Paradox Fire, the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Williams Construction, and sheriff’s offices from both San Miguel and Montrose counties worked together to contain the blaze.

Firefighters had the fire mostly under control within two hours, though smoke remained visible into the evening. A team stayed on site overnight to monitor for flare-ups.
